18-21 October 2007 Second QuarryScapes Workshop, Petra, Jordan

The glories of Petra formed the backdrop to the second annual workshop in October 2007, for consortium members, visiting scholars and those engaged in QuarryScapes work-packages. Hosted in Petra at the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, Department of Archaeology and Tourism, the proceedings were opened with a televised address by his Excellency Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Hroot, President of the university. Further opening addresses were made by Nizar Abu-Jaber , Ziad Mohammad Kayed al-Saad and Tom Heldal. Progress and results from work-packages were presented and discussed during the workshop, as well as a business meeting for work-package leaders. Keynote lectures were given by Prof. Jim Harrell (Univ. of Toledo) and Prof. Lorenzo Lazzarini (Universitá IUVA di Venezia). A field trip into the ancient city of Petra and surrounding quarries were led by Nizar Abu-Jaber and Ziad Mohammad Kayed al-Saad. Extended abstracts from the workshop proceedings will be available through the website soon.
